How do I prepare semen samples for analysis?

To ensure accurate measurements, dilute semen samples according to the recommended concentration ranges for specific species:

  • Bull: 1:10 to 1:50 dilution for raw semen density of 500-2000 M/ml
  • Boar: 1:5 to 1:20 dilution for raw semen density of 200-1000 M/ml
  • Stallion: 1:1 to 1:20 dilution for raw semen density of 20-700 M/ml
  • Ram: 1:50 to 1:200 dilution for raw semen density of 2000-6000 M/ml
  • Dog: 1:4 to 1:20 dilution for raw semen density of 100-600 M/ml
  • Rabbit: 1:4 to 1:30 dilution for raw semen density of 100-1200 M/ml
  • Poultry: Dilution varies by species

For large volume samples, such as 100 ml of pig semen, homogenize the liquid by performing 3-4 slow upside-down movements before testing to ensure even distribution.

What should I do if I encounter an error message during analysis?

If you encounter error messages such as "DRIFT," "LOW_CELL_NUMBER," "LOW_MOTILITY," or "TOO DENSE," refer to the Troubleshooting section of the support documentation for detailed solutions. Some quick tips include:

  • DRIFT: Wait a few seconds after filling the chamber for drift to subside, use 5 μl of sample, and ensure no excess semen remains.
  • LOW_CELL_NUMBER: Verify slide placement, chamber filling (5 μl), and sample dilution.
  • LOW_MOTILITY: The sample may be dead or providing statistically unreliable results. Consider assessing sample viability.
  • TOO DENSE: Further dilute the sample to achieve the optimal concentration range.

How often does the Ongo Vision system require maintenance?

The Ongo Vision microscope is designed to minimize routine maintenance. The main requirements are:

  • Regular software updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features. Check the app for update notifications and install as needed.
  • Proper cleaning of the device and accessories, as detailed in the Cleaning and Storage article.

Can I use slides from other manufacturers with the Ongo Vision system?

No, the Ongo Vision system is designed to work exclusively with Ongo Slides for accurate sperm characteristic analysis. Using slides other than Ongo Slides will compromise concentration readings and overall analysis accuracy. This is due to the specific calibration and compatibility requirements of the system.

How do I update the Android App and Windows software?

Ongo Vision Android App updates are performed through the Google Play Store, following standard app update procedures:

  1. When an update is available, you will typically receive a notification from the Google Play Store.
  2. Open the Google Play Store app, go to "My apps & games," find the Ongo Vision App, and tap "Update." If you have auto-updates enabled, the app will update automatically.
  3. Before updating, it is recommended to back up your analysis data on your local Android device using standard Android backup protocols.

For Windows software updates, we inform our customers via email when a new version is available. The email will contain instructions on how to download and install the latest version of the Ongo Vision software for Windows.

You will also be notified of updates for both Android and Windows via your preferred contact channel, as indicated in your Ongo Vision account settings.
