Understanding Your Results
After running a semen analysis with your Ongo Compact, it's crucial to understand and interpret the results accurately. This article will explain how to interpret the results screen, access and process the data stored on the pen drive, and import the results into spreadsheet programs like Excel or Google Sheets.
Interpreting the Results Screen
The results screen on your Ongo Compact displays the following information:
- Measurement success status ("Result: OK" or fault notification)
- Repeat number
- Sample ID
- Cell count
- Concentration (million sperm/ml)
- Progressive motility (%)
- Total motility (%)
- Immotile cells (%)
Take note of the Sample ID, as this corresponds to the folder name on the pen drive where the results and videos for that sample are stored.
To continue measuring the same sample, press the "Repeat" button. To save the results and conclude the measurement process for the current sample, press the "Finish" button. After recording multiple videos, the results will be displayed as averages, except for the cell count, which is cumulative.
Accessing and Processing Results Data
All measurement data is stored on the pen drive in a folder corresponding to the Sample ID shown on the results screen. The files stored in each folder include:
- MP4 videos of each measurement
- A PDF file listing the results of the individual videos and the averaged results
- A CSV file in the root directory containing all results, which can be easily imported into spreadsheet programs
The naming convention for the files is as follows:
- Folder name: Sample ID (e.g., "58")
- Videos: "Sample_ID_serial-Number-of-Measurement" (e.g., "58_1")
- PDF: "Sample_ID_result" (e.g., "58_result")
Importing Results into Spreadsheet Programs
To process large amounts of data or create databases with measurement data, you can import the Ongo Compact results into spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
Importing into Microsoft Excel
- Open Microsoft Excel.
- Click on "Data" in the header menu.
- Click "Get Data" → "From File" → "From Text/CSV" or click the "From Text/CSV" button next to the "Get Data" icon.
- Select the "ongo_result.csv" file from your computer's file explorer.
- Click "Load" in the popup window.
Importing into Google Sheets
- Open Google Sheets.
- Click on "File" → "Import" → "Upload".
- Select the "ongo_result.csv" file from your computer.
- Click "Import Data" at the bottom of the popup screen.
CAUTION: Always save the data from the Ongo pen drive to your computer in a separate directory. Avoid saving directly onto the original "ongo_result_csv" file on the pen drive to prevent data loss or corruption.
By understanding how to interpret and process your Ongo Compact results, you can make informed decisions based on accurate semen analysis data.
